Balance
January 6, 2010Happy New Year! I hope this year will be a wonderful one for you. I hope you will find balance. Spouse, kids, work and play! Balance with your diet, and your exercise routine. By diet I mean what foods you are eating, not some crazy plan you have heard of and want to try. Some diets take out all the fat from your meals! Good fats are so important! You need Flax, Olive Oil, and butter. Our brain, heart, skin, hair, and the list goes on and on, need good fats!
We also need to exercise, stretch, and work on balance daily. The kind of balance I am talking about is the communication between body and brain. We lose our sense of balance as we age. To see how you are doing...stand on one foot with your eyes open, now try with your eyes closed. Most of us notice a difference! You can work on practicing balance every day in little exercises like that or if you enjoy yoga, keep your eyes closed for a minute with each pose
Here is a good article for stretching. Remember you can keep your eyes closed for part of the moves and that should help with your balance too.
Stretches and Flexibility Exercises with Pictures
This is a complete list of stretches or flexibility exercises to be performed in a workout. If you are unsure of how to implement these into your training program, please read:
Flexibility is defined as a joint's ability to move freely through a full and normal range of motion (ROM).
Static Stretching This refers to passive stretching where a stretch is held in a specific location for a certain time.
Stretching and Flexibility ExercisesBallistic aka. Bouncing Stretching: Dynamic muscular movements, such as a bouncing bent over hamstring stretch. (advanced athletes.)
Stretching is extremely important for general health and to prevent injuries during daily life and exercise. Also remember that a longer muscle is a stronger muscle.
When should you stretch? Always static stretch when your muscles are warm (after exercising). Perform dynamic (Arm circles, trunk rotations etc.) stretching before exercise.
